Trusting God brings Peace

It is that time of year again…the Holiday’s when it seems you never have enough time in the day when your list of things to do seems never ending. As with any situation those around us who know we are Christians want to know how we will respond to the stress of the Holiday’s. Will be stressed out and frazzled or will we be calm and bring peace to others? I think the key to peace this Holiday Season and all the time is to trust God.
What does it mean exactly to “trust” God? Trusting God involves giving our fears, our worries, and our plans for our lives over to Him, the Author of Life. I believe that God allows situations to come into our lives to teach us to trust Him. It is so easy to become wrapped up in our own world and problems that when a trial comes we immediately try to fix it ourselves rather than giving it to God and allowing Him to take care of it. He says to “not worry about tomorrow…it will not add a single hour to our lives.” (Matthew 6:27 & 34 paraphrase).
Rather than make a plan and then tell God about it. Go to Him first and put your trust in His Perfect Plan for your life. “For He knows the plans He has for us, plans to prosper and not to harm, plans to give us a hope and future.” (Jeremiah 29:11 paraphrase) We have to come to a place that even when bad things happen we know that God is still good and that His plans for our lives are truly better than what we could think up for ourselves. If we trust God and rest in the knowledge that His plans are best then we wouldn’t be so worried and stressed out most of the time; we would have a “peace that passes all understanding”. As we celebrate Christ’s Birth this Christmas Season let’s bring peace to those around us by trusting in the One who knows us and loves us more than anything in the world. Let it be an opportunity for those around you to ask about the peace you have amongst the hustle and bustle and stress that often comes this time of year.

My favorite verses about trust-Psalm 9:10, Psalm 25:10, Psalm 37:5, Psalm 56:4,
Proverbs 3:5, Isaiah 12:2, Romans 15:13, and peace- John 14:27, Romans 5:1, Romans 15:13,
1 Corinthians 14:33, Philippians 4:7, Colossians 3:15.
